ASTMH Call for Award Nominations

ASTMH will present the following honors this year at the society's 57th Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Dalrymple/Young Award. The Dalrymple-Young Award is presented approximately every other year. This award honors the memories of Nathaniel Young and Joel Dalrymple, outstanding human beings and scientists who left us far too early. The award is presented to a person in mid-career who has made significant scientific contributions representing or leading to advances in virology. The awardee will have a record of outstanding publications and is recognized as a leader in the field. Further, the awardee should be an active member of the American Committee on Arthropod-Borne Viruses (ACAV) and be a mentor to younger scientists, generous with her or his time, and otherwise represent the best of our field. This award is administered by the American Committee on Arthropod-Borne Viruses (ACAV). Nomination materials include a letter of nomination (approximately 4,000 character limit) and the nominee's curriculum vitae.

Nomination deadline: September 30, 2008.

Communications Award. The Communications Award recognizes exceptional achievement in tropical medicine journalism with the potential to educate readers and inform public policy regarding diseases and health conditions specific to poor and underserved populations. This award honors an individual author (or authors contributing to a body of work) as opposed to an employer, publisher or institution. Eligible entries will include feature-length newspaper articles, magazine articles or series. Articles published solely online and broadcast journalism will not be considered at this time.
