Kristy Murray Named New Scientific Program Chair

The Society is pleased to announce Kristy Murray, DVM, PhD, FASTMH, as the new ASTMH Scientific Program Chair. 
 
Dr. Murray is currently Associate Program Chair for the ASTMH Annual Meeting, and a Professor and Executive Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Pediatrics at Emory University and Chief Research Officer at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

"Dr. Murray understands the complexity and the nuances of developing a scientific program for a society as diverse as ours," said ASTMH President Terrie E. Taylor, DO, who chaired the selection committee. "She is a skilled scientific administrator, a visionary leader and a multidisciplinary scientist. She is committed to global representation and inclusivity, elevating our scientific excellence, improving the experience of our Annual Meeting for trainees and early-career scientists, and exploring opportunities to innovate with respect to our program design and engagement."
 
Dr. Murray succeeds Davidson Hamer, MD, FASTMH, who will become the new editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene following the 2026 Annual Meeting in November.
 
The Scientific Program Chair is responsible for all aspects of the educational and scientific program content presented at the Society’s Annual Meeting. The Chair is appointed to serve as a full voting member of the ASTMH Board of Directors and is a member of the Executive Committee. The Chair also works closely with the ASTMH CEO, Scientific Program Administrative Manager Judy DeAcetis and the rest of staff.
