Same patient had a stalked polyp of the sigmoid colon. The polyp contained numerous eggs of S. haematobium and a few eggs of S. mansoni. Isolated intestinal polyps are not infrequent amoung Egyptians infected with S. mansoni or S. haematobium. They are less frequently seen in Brazilians suffering from S. mansoni infections.

Hemicolectomy specimen from 40 year old Egyptian male showing large bilharzioma adjacent to the rectosigmoid colon. Several polyps were present in the intestine. The bilharzioma was composed mainly of fibrotic granulomas, About 23, 000 S. mansoni eggs and 1, 500 S. haematobium eggs per gram of polyp and/or bilharzioma were present. Irregular fibrous masses were present in the colonic serosa as well. Numerous S. mansoni adults were found in the specimen. Surgery was scheduled to provide relief from urinary tract obstruction (right ureter) caused by S. haematobium. The colon was resected because the mass was suspected to be cancer.
